The Trail Blazer Award Countless hours of dedicated volunteer time and effort are spent each year by a unique group of Albertans who work tirelessly on behalf of the greater Alberta Community. Each year at the Annual General Meeting, Alberta TrailNet awards the provincial “Trail Blazer Award”. The Trail Blazer Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to and demonstrated long standing commitment and involvement in trail development and operation in Alberta. In selecting the recipient, Alberta TrailNet recognizes that any one individual’s accomplishments are supported by and reflect the contributions, commitment, and achievements of other trail builders and supporters within that community. The Trail Blazer award, created by Ilb Rasmussen, is a beautifully hand carved large wooden boot on a tree stump that features the names of the award winners engraved on brass plates. Each award recipient receives "the baby boot" by the same artist in commemoration of having been named a provincial Trail Blazer. Alberta TrailNet has been proud to present this award since 1997 and congratulates all past and present winners for their outstanding efforts. Trail Blazer award winners to date include: David McClement - 2010 Louise Sherren (2009) Don Cockerton (2008) Glen French (2007) Louisa Rich (2006) Don Gardner (2005) Robert Bouchard (2004) Jeff Gruttz (2003) Norm Froom (2002) Sandie Anderson (2001) Rob Gardner (2000) Lloyd Lohr (1999) George Gordon (1998) Douglas Campbell (1997) If you know of someone worthy of nomination for this award, please contact TrailNet's office at (780)422-7150 or toll free at 1-877-987-2457.
